Placeholders are porous, bisque-fired receptacles designed to support a multitude of unfired clay/photograph composites across various states of change. This functional ceramics series was developed to address transformative qualities inherent in life: breakage, disintegration, and decay.

Influenced by reliquaries, ossuaries, columbariams, soul houses, mingqi as well as museum mountmaking practices, Placeholders are shaped by the footprints and contours of the original sculptures contained within. They are reincarnations of previous material states, holding the potential to transform further into the future.
